Metsolar is proud to announce its participation in the Horizon Europe-funded IBC4EU project, a collaborative effort aimed at developing cost-effective and sustainable bifacial interdigitated back contact (IBC) solar cell and module technology at the pilot line level. Coordinated by ISC Konstanz, the IBC4EU initiative brings together 17 European partners to establish a vertically integrated European production value chain for IBC-based photovoltaic (PV) technology.

As part of its involvement, Metsolar will produce IBC- and TOPCon-based Building-Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) modules for comparative analysis. Additionally, the company will integrate a machine vision system into its pilot production line to monitor the visual quality of modules during manufacturing. These efforts align with Metsolar’s commitment to advancing solar technology and contributing to the European Union’s renewable energy goals.

The IBC4EU project focuses on improving existing processing steps using available equipment, introducing novel technologies to reduce ownership costs, and employing Industry 4.0 solutions for predictive maintenance, quality control, and traceability. The goal is to scale up to gigawatt-level mass production by 2030, ensuring a sustainable and competitive solar industry in Europe.

Stay tuned for updates on Metsolar’s contributions to this groundbreaking initiative.
