METSOLAR Joins the Horizon Europe EMPOWER Project

METSOLAR EU – Custom Solar Solutions is proud to announce its participation in the Horizon Europe EMPOWER Project, a groundbreaking initiative uniting 25 organizations across 9 countries with one ambitious goal: to transform photovoltaic (PV) manufacturing and make solar energy more cost-effective, accessible, and impactful than ever before.

Shaping the Future of Photovoltaics with the EMPOWER Project

The EMPOWER Project is part of the Horizon Europe programme, the EU’s key funding initiative for research and innovation. This multi-year project aims to accelerate the development of next-generation PV technologies, streamline manufacturing processes, and significantly reduce production costs—paving the way for a more sustainable, solar-powered Europe.

At METSOLAR, we are thrilled to contribute our expertise as an innovative PV module manufacturer, known for our high-quality custom solar solutions tailored for architectural integration and energy efficiency.

METSOLAR’s Contribution: Custom PV Solutions for Smarter, Greener Cities

As part of the EMPOWER consortium, METSOLAR brings added value through advanced building-integrated PV products:

  1. Advanced Cell Interconnection Technologies

We are developing and pilot-testing stringers using alternative cell interconnection methods. These new approaches aim to improve module performance, reduce material consumption, and unlock new formats for custom applications.

  1. High-Throughput Laminator Retrofit

Our production line is being upgraded with a retrofitted laminator system, designed to handle high-speed throughput and alternative module architectures.

  1. Industry 4.0 Manufacturing & Quality Control

METSOLAR is implementing smart factory principles, including AI-based quality control tools and data-driven process monitoring. These upgrades support real-time production optimization, reduce defects, and align with Industry 4.0 best practices in PV manufacturing.

  1. Digital Product Passport for Sustainability

We are also co-developing a Digital Product Passport for our solar panels—providing a complete ecological profile and traceability across the product lifecycle. This includes green certification, carbon footprint metrics, and recyclability insights to support transparency and compliance with EU sustainability standards.
