One Step Closer to the Project Finish Line: IBC4EU General Assembly in Amsterdam

Last week, we took part in the IBC4EU Horizon Europe project General Assembly, held at the TNO site in Amsterdam. The meeting brought together project partners from across Europe at an important moment, as the project moves into its final phase and work increasingly shifts from alignment to delivery.

The General Assembly provided an opportunity to review the progress achieved over the past six months, openly discuss challenges, and agree on the next steps required to bring the project forward. With research institutions, technology developers, and industrial partners around the table, discussions focused on ensuring that innovation remains closely connected to real-world application and manufacturing needs.

For Metsolar, the focus was clear: pushing back-contact (BC) solar cell technology forward into BIPV applications, where seamless integration into the building envelope is essential. This perspective reflects our broader approach to BIPV — developing solutions that combine performance, manufacturability, and architectural compatibility without compromising building design.

Together with project partners, we explored how strategic concepts are steadily translating into practical solutions and tangible outcomes. The collaborative nature of the discussions highlighted the value of working across disciplines, ensuring that advances in cell technology, module design, and production processes evolve in parallel.

Although Metsolar joined the IBC4EU project relatively recently, the progress achieved so far has been encouraging. Even within a short timeframe, we are already seeing clear momentum and concrete results, reinforcing confidence in both the project’s direction and its potential impact on Europe’s photovoltaic landscape.

The General Assembly concluded with a visit to Energyra Europe’s PV module factory, offering participants a firsthand look at how project ideas move beyond development and into real manufacturing environments. Observing production processes up close provided valuable insight into industrial readiness, scalability, and the practical considerations required to translate innovation into deployable solutions.

Overall, the meetings in Amsterdam reinforced a strong sense of collaboration, shared responsibility, and forward momentum across the consortium. As the project enters its final stage, continued coordination between partners will be key to delivering meaningful results.

We would like to thank all partners for the trust, engagement, and constructive collaboration throughout this journey. 🤝

We look forward to the next steps ahead.
