The project will be implemented by Metsolar, operating in renewable energy sector. The company’s main activity is solar energy technology manufacturing, while also actively engaging in the development of innovative solar energy solutions, focusing on sustainability, the circular economy and high value technological solutions for industry and construction. To strengthen its competitiveness Metsolar seeks to introduce advanced new products to the market.
Currently, the company is manufacturing non-standard photovoltaic (PV) modules designed for various applications, such as, street poles, smart city infrastructure and, building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) systems. Recognizing the growing demand for such solutions, company aims to create a sustainable eco-innovative PV module (GreenTechSun).
By developing this product, a new generation of eco-innovative solar module manufacturing technology will be created, enabling the production of efficient PV modules grounded in ecological principles. The use of recycled and/or recyclable materials will contribute to environmental objectives by reducing CO2 emissions, minimizing waste, conserving raw materials and improving fire-resistance performance to better comply with construction requirements. This way it will also increase the potential to integrate such modules into heritage – protected buildings, thereby enhancing their energy efficiency.
The projects implementation will ensure the creation of a fully recyclable solar module, which will not only reduce the environmental impact of PV industry, but also open new opportunities in construction and renewable energy sectors. The module will be tailored to BIPV market, meet the highest fire safety standards and become the most significant part of the transition to sustainable and climate-neutral energy.
Project Objective – through R&D activities, develop an innovative product and implement ecological solutions.
Key project activities include:
- Promoting the development and demonstration of innovative environmentally friendly technologies that encourage the production of sustainable products in industrial SME’s (Central and Western Lithuania region);
- Implementation of Environmental Management System (EMS) in line with international standards and/or conducting technological audits of production; eco-design, eco-labeling, and certification (Central and Western Lithuania region).
Project funding source – co-financed by the European Union.
Project value – 346,490,26 euros, of which 228,432,82 euros is allocated as funding.
Project duration is from August 2025 until August 2028.
